It is essential that you have the vocabulary to really nail the author's tone! Check out these flashcards!

Here are a few tone words that you should know:
didactic
contentious
sardonic

Discussion

  • Let's review the essay we read last time and look at some responses.
  • Look at the rubric for analytical writing. Highlight some points that really stand out on the examples.

  • Look at your thesis statement and chunk. Evaluate yourself according to the rubric.
  • Think critically about your strengths and weaknesses in analytical writing. Assess yourself on the checklist provided. Then, write a short reflection (paragraph) about your own strengths/weaknesses/instructional needs.
